Frequently Asked Questions
Thinking Stage
Will AI replace my job as a junior programmer?
Generative AI can be a valuable tool for developers to
increase the efficiency of their work, but it cannot
replace programmers’ job entirely. AI can automate
certain tasks and generate code suggestions, but it
cannot replicate the unique expertise, creativity, and
critical thinking of programmers, nor the valuable
mentorship, guidance, and learning opportunities that
come from working with experienced programmers.
Programmers play an important role in interpreting
customer needs, solving problems, making decisions,
along with designing and testing reliable softwares.
This will allow their work not only to remain
essential for successful software development, but
with incorporating AI tools they can create more
innovative software systems and strengthen their role
in the sector as well.
How come your courses became VAT free?
According to the new legislation about adult education, those courses can become VAT free that meet the program requirements passed and published by the minister responsible for vocational training, as well as, have received the preliminary certification of an adult education expert. Java and JavaScript courses of Green Fox Academy (Adult education permit number: E/2020/000006) have met those requirements, therefore we can offer both our Junior front-end developer (06134004) and Java back-end developer (06134005) courses VAT free.
What if it turns out during the course that
programming is not for me?
Although there is a four-step selection process that should prevent this, it can happen that you change your mind. Therefore there is a trial period and money-back guarantee, meaning that during the first two weeks of the zeroth homework, the first 7 days of the mentor-assisted course in the case of the super-intensive course, or the first 14 days of the part-time course, both you and we can decide not to proceed together. In this case only the administrative costs will be required from you.
How do I know if I can become a junior developer in only a couple of months?
The applications process has been designed to reveal this. In addition to strong motivation, you will need solid analytical thinking, as well as, quick problem-solving and learning abilities. These competences are measured by the performance shown during solving online games. For us to assume that a candidate will be able to master the curriculum at an increased pace, a benchmark score has to be reached in these games.
Why is knowing English necessary for the course?
English is the default language of the IT industry. Our course materials and any online help are also in English. Moreover our students present their projects in English.
Is there anything that works to my advantage during the application process?
Yes, having tried programming of any kind (e.g. on an online course or on a Green Fox Academy workshop) or having a degree in any field.
Application Process
How long before the course's start will I be
notified if I was admitted? Is there going to be
enough time to hand in my resignation?
We will let you know more than 30 days prior to the
course's start. So if you are employed, you will
have to quit your job only given that you got into the
program. The application process lasts for appr. 2
weeks and you will receive your results within a few
days of completing each step.
Is it possible to apply now for a later course?
You can apply the upcoming course by default, but we
can make an exception if justified.
Is there an age limit?
No, but we shall mention that our oldest student was
55 years old thus far, and it was more difficult for
him to prove that he is able to cope with a junior
position. In our experience it is entirely for you to
consider if you are going to be able to handle a new
career in a junior position after years of experience
in another field.
Is it possible to do a mock application?
No, unfortunately, because the application process requires a significant investment of energy from both the sides of the applicant and our admissions team.
Can I try again, if I did not pass the application?
Yes, however, you have to wait half a year, because we
believe that this much time is needed for further
preparation.
The Course
Are there courses outside of Budapest?
Online courses are doable from anywhere in the world,
you only have to consider the time difference.
On-campus courses take place in Budapest and
Prague.
How often do courses start?
They start appr. every 3-4 months, depending on
interest.
Can I take part beside school or working?
Not in case of full-time courses, because for becoming
a junior developer in only a couple of months you will
have to study and concentrate hard. Classes take place
from 9 AM to 6 PM, followed by homework. It would be
both physically and mentally impossible to fully
participate beside another school or job. If you would
like to become a developer beside working we recommend
you our online part-time course.
How much time does the course take up?
The full-time course goes on every weekday from 9 AM
to 6 PM, followed by individual preparation and
practicing. You can calculate with approximately 50-60
hours a week. The part-time course takes up about 20
hours a week, 3 hours each on two weeknights and a
whole weekend day, complemented by individual
preparation and practicing.
How much can I be absent from the course?
You can take 2 days off without notice. You can take 5
additional days off, if you have a child under the age
of three. You have 3 more days of sick leave that must
be verified by a doctor’s note. Of course, in case of
a sudden health issue, we will do our best to find an
alternative solution.
Why exactly does the full-time course last for 4.5 months?
This is the shortest amount of time, within which you
can acquire the level of expertise required for
entering the IT labor market. Also we try to minimize
the time that you have to spend without income.
What kind of laptop is needed for the course?
Students use their own laptops. Preferably it should
have at least a dual core processor and 8 GB of
memory, however 16 GB is recommended.
You must have a 64-bit operating system, but it can be
Microsoft Windows, Linux, or Mac OS. Some
specializations may require a certain operating
system: Windows is recommended for .net and required
for C++ and the Dev Boards module.
What is the difference between a university course and
Green Fox?
The biggest difference is in the methodology: you
learn the curriculum through assigned tasks with our
mentor's support, and the theory behind is mostly
learnt at home through educational videos. During our
course, you will spend the same amount of time
practicing as you would at a university.
Do you offer a remote learning option?
Online courses happen remotely, you can do them from
home. However, you have to attend on-campus courses in
person. Only 10% of the time is taken up by lectures,
the remaining 90% consist of individual and group work
led by our mentors.
Students
What kind of professional background do the students
have?
Our students became developers coming from a variety
of backgrounds: lawyers, athletes, musicians and
engineers have all attended our courses. It is also
not uncommon that people wish to combine their
existing qualifications with software development. You
can read the stories of our students on our
blog.
Has anyone ever left the course before graduating?
The goal of the four-step application process is to
ensure that accepted applicants are going to be able
to graduate. However it has happened in the past that
someone did not finish. This is typically due to a
sudden work opportunity, other personal reasons, or
failing exams repeatedly.
What is the average age of the students?
About 30 years.
After the Course
What are the chances of me getting a job at the end of the course?
According to the
research of IVSZ
(Association of IT, Telco and Electronics Companies)
approximately 44,000 IT professionals are missing from
the labor market only in Hungary. So your chances are
high. This is also supported by the fact that 90% of
our students found a job in IT. However, finding
placement could take several months, therefore we
update the above rate 6 months after the end of each
cohort. Nevertheless, best students are hired right
after the course.
Is a diploma not needed to find a job in this
industry?
Absolutely not, in our experience. Companies are
interested in what you can do, your openness and
ability to learn new things.
Is there a guarantee for finding a job?
Yes, we give you a '100% placement
guarantee', which ensures that if you cannot find
a job within six months after successful graduation
per the terms detailed in your Adult Education
Agreement, we refund 100% of your tuition or waive it
entirely if you chose post-payment.
